Mayday - last morning in Los Vilos

I looked at the accommodation options in Vicuna (where most of the astronomical observatories are) last night on AirBnB and could only find one - a new one just joined in April this year. So, I booked it straight away in case I missed out and couldn't stay there - one of the highlights of my trip. It looks comfortable. a room in a private home by the look of it, so I booked 3 nights (as usual). That seems to be the optimum length of time to stay in each place - one night on arrival day, the next day to explore and then one last night to organise the next stopover point. I'm at latitude 31 S. at the moment and looking forward to getting up to latitude 18 S. where I expect it will be warmer (the air is cold here during the day and at night even colder, off the cold ocean). Vicuna will be freezing so I'll have to invest in a puffer jacket and wool hat before I leave Coquimbo (or maybe borrow one from the host in Vicuna as it won't be any use to me after that and I haven't got room for any excess clothing).
I skipped tea last night after overspending on a late lunch - trying to keep within a reasonable budget for food. The lunch cost twice as much as my ticket from here to Coquimbo.
It was a lovely evening along the playa and lots of other people strolling along taking photos of a beautiful sunset (which seems to happen every night along this coast). I couldn't help thinking that almost due West of where I was standing is New Zealand, two tiny islands in the Pacific compared to this huge continent of several countries and numerous cultures. Due West would likely be closer to Norfolk Island's latitude which is considerably warmer than this location at the same latitude.
